"Leave a message"

It was surprising but also great to discover that it isn't so difficult to do art project in such a specific place as hospital. People were very kind. It wasn't difficult to involved them.
I and Ola had done some photographic projects in Poland, but I realized that it wouldn't be good idea to use camera in hospital. Even if we gave camera to the visitors, it could be aggressive somehow.
We decided to ask people about things that are quite simple. We've talked with the visitors and staffs in cafe in hospital, because it's natural point of meetings.
It was nice to notice that people talked with as with pleasure.
I and Ola decided to make some postcard because it gives opportunity to send message from people in hospital to the other.

Leave a message …

The Project:
On 27th February Gabi and I initiated a project called “Leave a message”. During half a day, which we spend in Costa Cafe in one of the hospital departments, we asked visitors and staff from University Hospital North Staffordshire questions What makes you smile? or What kind of gift would you like to give other person? The idea was to create a message from staff and visitors to others in this Hospital.

This project was a new experience for me. In Poland we haven’t got anything like Art Company connected with hospital (like in UHNS the Fit for the Future).
In our country the idea of art&health is virtually unknown.
During this one day we saw how hard it is to work in the Hospital. The people are very tired or sad, but on the other hand, our idea makes them smile. Our project was something very small, and short, but I felt that it could be useful - also in the future.

The Result:
We collected 30 answers. Some of the words or sentences were illustrated with our photographic image. The last thing we would like to do (and what we are doing currently), will be some postcards with the answers and our illustrations. We will leave these postcards as a gift for people in Hospital.

Today I am leaving our graphic project in Prontaprint in Newcastle, tomorrow the postcards will be ready.

Cyborg and meta-tourist

David

It's hard to hear English language on the streets of London. It's easier to read it in the streets.
Are we different because we take photographs of the tourists taking photographs of themselves? Something like being a meta-tourist? I don't think so.

On Monday we had a presentation of the "work on progress" of "Breaking glass" and a discussion with a mini-workshop for the Youth Theatre of the New Vic.
Thanks to the girls I had a documentation of the kind of work I did there. I can't do theatre exercises and take photographs at the same time.
I thought that my camera had already become a part of my body. I guess it's not true, I'm not a cyborg yet.
